Introduction and Purpose: Hyperactivity is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. The behavioral and emotional consequences of this disorder can impose significant psychological stress and caregiving challenges on mothers. The first study was conducted to investigate the effect of spiritual care training on the resilience of mothers with children with ADHD.
Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design with a control group on 60 mothers of children with ADHD who referred to Ayatollah Taleghani Hospital in Gorgan. The samples were selected by convenience method and randomly assigned to two intervention and control groups. In the intervention group, six 45-minute sessions of spiritual care training were implemented based on the Richards and Bergin (2005) model. No intervention was performed in the control group. The collection tools included a demographic information form and the Connor-Davidson (2003) resilience questionnaire, which were completed before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 24 software and a multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) at a significance level of less than 0.05.
Results: According to the results of this study, the majority of mothers participating in the test group were in the age range of 25-35 years and in the control group were 36-45 years. Mean ± SD resilience score in the experimental group was (pre‑intervention 47.63 ± 5.738, post‑intervention 83.50 ± 5.029) and in the control group (pre‑intervention 47.47 ± 7.459, post‑intervention 50.33 ± 7.063). The results of multivariate analysis of covariance showed that spiritual care training significantly improved the total score of resilience and its dimensions in the experimental group compared to the control group (P=0.001).
Conclusion: Spiritual care training can effectively improve the resilience of mothers of children with ADHD. Therefore, integrating this approach into special support and educational services for these mothers has great potential to improve their quality of life and ability to adapt.
