Introduction

Trauma is one of the major cause of death and disability in communities which causes the death of millions of people worldwide annually. Evidence suggests that in Iran injuries from car accidents (especially on the days of religious and cultural occasion) is very impressive. The preliminary examination shows that studies about the relationship between the frequency of reception of patients with occasions of the year have not been conducted so far. Therefore, more serious planning and measures seem necessary to reduce the accidents and injuries, in addition to knowledge of the demographic characteristics of the victims, and the relationship between frequency of received persons with the occasions of the year. Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of trauma patients received in Shahid Rajai Hospital and its relationship with the occasion of the year, such as Ramadan, Tasua and Ashura, etc.

Methodology

In this study, the required data will be collected through data collection form completed by the Emergency Nurses. That data collection form includes information such as gender, mechanism of accident (car, motorcycle accident, pedestrian injuries, assaults, shooting) and reception time (date and hour of reception) and religious occasions (holidays of the year, Wednesday Feast, Yalda, Tasua and Ashura, the month of Ramadan) of the day of reception is also recorded. Nowruz is classified to the first week and the second week. Wednesday Feast is considered from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Descriptive and inferential statistics such as t-test, chi-square and SPSS software for data analysis will be used.

Results

The results show that the average number of patients per day was 38.9, and standard deviation was 26.5. The average number of hospitalized men was significantly more than women. The average number of the hospitalized in Fridays and weekdays has no significant difference. Frequencies suggest that number of the hospitalized in Wednesday Feast increases each year. The average number of the hospitalized in the first half and second half of Nowruz vacation has no significant difference. The average number of the hospitalized of Martyr’s Days and Birthdays in mechanisms of the car, motorcycle, assaults, falls and unexpected events has no significant difference. The average number of the hospitalized women in Martyr’s Days and weekdays has no significant difference. But the average hospitalized men in Martyr’s Days is significantly less than that in weekdays.

Conclusion

The results showed that the average number of the hospitalized during Ramadan, weekdays, Martyr’s Days, Birthdays in mechanisms of car, motorcycle, assaults, falls and unexpected events, shooting and stabbing has no significant difference. The average number of the hospitalized in the first half and second half of Nowruz vacation has no significant difference and the average number of the hospitalized men and women Martyr’s Days and Birthdays has no significant differences. The results showed the average number of the hospitalized men is significantly more than women.  It is recommended that men take more care in the field of traumatic events and it is recommended to conduct similar study in other hospitals to compare the results.
